Douglas A. McIntyre, der frühere Editor-in-chief und Publisher des Financial World Magazine untersucht in einem lesenswerten Artikel, wer was über uns weiß.

Sein Eingangsstatement: Es gibt keinen Datenschutz mehr in den USA.
"Don't kid yourself. Real privacy no longer exists in this country."

Nach den Daten, die jeder bereits bei den staatlichen Stellen abgegeben hat, viele davon im Zuge der Terrorgesetze nach 911, zeigt er auf, dass sich auch die privaten Datensammler sehr erfolgreich in unserem Privatleben austoben. Er identifiziert 9 Bereiche mit ungeheuren Datenarchiven:
  • Credit Rating Agencies (files on over 200 million people)
  • Cell Phone Service Providers (data of 90% of the American population)
  • Social Media Companies (facebook a.o.)
  • Credit Card Companies (610 million credit cards owned by U.S. consumers)
  • Search Engines (every link brings ads)
  • Retail Chains (i.e. RFID at WalMart)
  • Casinos (RFID chips)
  • Banks ( savings, employer payroll deposits)
  • Life Insurance Companies (140 million households )
