ACTA: Europe wide day of action!
June 9 demos in London and across the UK and Europe
As the EU Commission pushes ahead with ACTA, demonstations are planned to pressurise the EU Parliament, which is poised on a kife edge over their vote to accept the Treaty.
The Anti Counterfeiting Trade Agreement is widely criticised for being an attack on the Open Internet and failing to protect fundamental rights. The EU Parliament is the last real chance we have to stop ACTA, which has been riddled with controversy from the start, with secret negotiations between pro-enforcement nations and lobby groups, while failing to engage with civil society.
There are less than 30 votes between ACTA being defeated or accepted at the EU Parliament. The pro-ACTA lobby is putting on a massive effort for ACTA.
That's why the next few weeks are critical. The 11 February protests led to the Treaty being stopped in its tracks: the June protests are vital to showing that the opposition to ACTA is strong and growing.
