Labour exploitation discussed during UN meeting on crime prevention and criminal justice

The UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ) will convene in Vienna for its annual, five-day session from 18 to 22 May. During the session, FRA will host a joint side-event to discuss the labour exploitation of workers moving within or into the EU and beyond that has been organised together with the Delegation of the European Union to the International Organisations in Vienna, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and the International Labour Organization (ILO).

The event will draw attention to efforts to combat severe labour exploitation and related crimes, and discuss the underlying causes. FRA will highlight some of the findings of its upcoming report on severe forms of labour exploitation, to be launched on 2 June. There will also be short presentations by speakers from the UNODC and ILO which will be followed by an interactive discussion.

FRA will also have an information stand at the event highlighting some of the agency’s recent reports and papers which address the issues discussed at the CCPCJ, such as violence against women and access to justice.
